One of the annual Wake County Bar Association (WCBA) Foundation Memorial Scholarships has been granted to rising third-year Campbell Law School student Jennifer Woy ’25 for this academic year. Woy, who has lived in Wake County since 2013, received $4,000, the WCBA announced in its recent newsletter.

Since her arrival at Campbell Law, Woy has earned three book awards for Nonprofit Organizations, Advanced Legal Research and Estate Administration. She is currently co-director of the Peer Mentor Program for the 2024-2025 academic year and serves as Lead Research Assistant to Professor John DeStefano, who is writing a North Carolina Estate Administration manual for publication by Lexis this fall. Prior to attending law school, Woy worked for more than nine years as a North Carolina State Certified Paralegal in Trust & Estates.

This summer, Woy served in Young Moore’s Summer Law Clerk Program and last summer, she worked as a summer associate at Wyrick Robbins.

She is also a long-time volunteer for the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA)’s Wills for Heroes, a program that partners with local fire, police and EMS stations/departments to host clinics where volunteer attorneys draft simple wills, health care power of attorney, financial power of attorney and advance directive documents for first responders and their families, free of charge.

A native of Southern California, Woy relocated to North Carolina after earning an associate of arts degree from Golden West Community College in Huntington Beach. In 2006, she earned a bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2013, she completed the paralegal program at Duke University.

Outside of her legal pursuits, Woy is active in the Raleigh tennis community. In 2017, she was named Raleigh Tennis Association’s Best Team Captain and a U.S. Tennis Association North Carolina Tennis Star for her contributions to the growth of tennis in the Raleigh community.

The WCBA scholarships are awarded annually to law students or persons about to enter law school who have Wake County ties and are funded through donations, the annual golf tournament and late fees from district bar dues. The scholarship fund was founded in memory of Edwin S. Preston Jr., former Wake County Chief Resident Superior Court Judge. This year’s other scholarship recipient is Jules Miccia, who is attending the University of North Carolina School of Law.

Membership in the Wake County Bar Association is voluntary for lawyers and judges who practice and reside in Wake County and are engaged in private practice, government service, corporate employment and the judiciary. Currently, there are more than 2,300 members who have chosen to better themselves, the profession and the public by providing better access to and understanding of the legal system, according to the WCBA website.
