Good Works: Bob Barker Company

For Bob Barker (‘65), a Campbell University alumnus, business has always been about more than the bottom line. Since its humble beginnings in a barber shop in 1972, Bob Barker Company has grown into the nation’s largest provider of correctional supplies, offering everything from mattresses and uniforms to personal care products and safety equipment. But at its core, the company is rooted in relationships and a commitment to service that extends far beyond its business operations.

Bob Barker’s vision is clear: to transform the criminal justice system while positively impacting the lives of incarcerated individuals. A former mayor and state senator, Barker has made service a cornerstone of his life and his business. This ethos is evident in the company’s dedication to second chances—helping those impacted by incarceration reenter society and contribute to safer communities.

The Bob Barker Foundation, established in 2009, is a powerful extension of this mission. It is the only foundation worldwide solely focused on reducing recidivism, having contributed over $9 million to programs that prepare formerly incarcerated individuals for a fresh start. Through initiatives that provide mentorship, higher education, life skills, and job readiness, the foundation addresses the toughest challenges faced by those reentering society.

The results are transformative. The foundation has touched more than 4 million lives, and programs it supports boast an average recidivism rate of under 11%. Barker’s faith plays a central role in this mission: he believes in honoring God by valuing all individuals, including those often overlooked or marginalized by society.

Beyond its work in corrections, Bob Barker Company also invests in its Team Members and communities, allocating a portion of profits to match employee donations and support local nonprofits. This culture of generosity reflects Barker’s broader commitment to giving back.

On campus, Barker’s legacy is ever-present. From football games at Barker-Lane Stadium, named in his honor, to his frequent visits to Campbell events, he remains an engaged member of the Camel family. His story is a reminder that the values instilled at Campbell can fuel lives of purpose, leadership, and meaningful change.

Through his work, Barker exemplifies what it means to make a lasting impact—not just in business, but in lives, communities, and the world.
