The Office of the Campbell Hallmarks and Character Education is excited to announce the launch of a new initiative, The Campbell Hallmarks Faculty Fellows. The goal of this program is to establish a group of full-time undergraduate faculty who are interested in strengthening research partnerships across campus that highlight alignment with Campbell’s mission of preparing students for purposeful lives and meaningful service. Specifically, this project seeks to develop and promote research around character education, essential skill building (initiative), or vocation and calling.

Dr. Valerie Joseph (Campbell Alumna ‘10 & ‘14) from Campbell’s Psychology Department has been selected to serve as the Chair of the Hallmarks Faculty Fellows program. She has worked collaboratively with the Office of the Hallmarks to shape the intended outcomes and goals of this initiative. Dr. Joseph was selected as the chair because of her exemplary work in the field of psychology, where she combines her expertise in psychological measurement with research on the intersections of spirituality and health.

“I look forward to collaborating across disciplines and working on a project that illuminates what I, among others, know to be the true spirit of Campbell” shares Joseph. “University settings have the capacity for rich interdisciplinary work and I am grateful to the Hallmarks Faculty Fellows Program for creating a space for meaningful co-creation among faculty.”

Dr. Rachel Nelson, Campbell’s Director of Campbell Hallmarks and Character education has been looking forward to this launch. “This Hallmarks Faculty Fellows program is the next step in how we are continuing to cultivate a culture of Character, Initiative, and Calling at Campbell. Our campus is full of seasoned researchers in their respective fields, I’m excited to see what they dream up together!”

This program will be the first of its kind on Campbell’s campus, intentionally developed to provide support for faculty researchers who are deeply engaged with the work of creating new knowledge to help promote human flourishing.

In recognition for their time and efforts, those selected for the Hallmarks Faculty Fellows program will earn a stipend through Wake Forest’s Educating Character Initiative grant that Campbell received in 2024.

All interested faculty can reach out to Rachel Nelson for more information or join Dr. Joseph for an informal drop-in session at Campbell’s Campus Starbucks on Friday, April 17th, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Applications will open the week of April 13th and are due by Saturday, May 9th.
