The Problematic Realities of Ignoring Rural Philanthropy

Allen Smart and Betsey Russell wrote a piece for the Daily Yonder about the consequences of dismissing investments in rural. Written in response to an article published in the New York Times, Smart and Russell challenge the misinformed perceptions that investing in rural communities is a waste of funds.  

When resources are limited, creative and innovative strategies must be formed concerning community development. Rural areas have always been skilled in the art of resourcefulness and urban funders can stand to gain from learning and adopting rural practices.
