Brooks Savage JD ‘19 to receive N.C. State Bar Pro Bono Award

Elizabeth “Brooks” Barrett Savage ’19 will receive the 2019 North Carolina State Bar Pro Bono Award for Campbell Law School on Friday, Oct. 25.

Savage will be recognized at a breakfast where a representative from each of the state’s six law schools will be honored for their pro bono contributions, according to Evin Grant, director of Student Life and Pro Bono Opportunities.

A 2019 dual-degree graduate, Savage earned her JD and a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH). Following her first year at Campbell Law, she began working as a Martin Luther King Jr. Intern with Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she assisted with advocating for victims of domestic violence, as well as landlord-tenant, expunction, social security administration, disability, will and power of attorney matter.

During Savage’s second year at Campbell Law she served on the Pro Bono Council as the Domestic Violence Advocacy Project co-coordinator. She has also worked with the N.C. Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the N.C. Department of Justice and at the N.C. Justice Center.

In her final year at Campbell Law, Savage served as director of the student-led Pro Bono Council and participated in the Service Animal Project. Her research focus was on the topic of technology’s impact on access to justice issues.

“I am thankful for the experiences I had while in law school because they have shaped my values as a community-driven advocate,” she said.  “I plan to continue this research as well as continue to serve the community through pro bono work.”
