Campbell Law competes in Hofstra National Trial Competition for third year

For the third consecutive year, Campbell Law School sent a team to compete in the Hofstra National Medical-Legal Trial Competition hosted by the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. The competition, which Campbell Law students won back-to-back championships in 2019 and 2020, was held virtually from Oct. 8-10, 2021.

The Hofstra National Medical-Legal Trial Competition is the only trial competition in the country in which a medical school and a law school collaborate to simulate real-life expert testimony by doctors.

Second-year law student Christian Allred and third-year law students Samantha Wyant, Caroline Margolis and Kara Goray represented Campbell Law in the competition. The team was coached by Campbell Law alumni Maria Hawkins ’12 and Chamberlain Collier ’20, a member of the 2019 Hofstra Medical-Legal Trial Competition championship winning team.

The participating law schools competed in three preliminary rounds of a mock civil trial involving dueling medical experts. Each law school was assigned a fourth-year student from the Zucker School of Medicine to serve as an expert witness. Additionally, each team had access to leading industry consultants from DOAR, a litigation-strategy and expert-witness consulting firm, for support with trial graphics and presentation.
