Divinity Professor Delivers Presidential Address to Baptist Professors of Religion

Dr. Barry Jones, professor of Old Testament and Hebrew in the Campbell University Divinity School, delivered the presidential address for the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas on November 20. Jones began his term as president of the NABPR in May, 2021. The title of his address was “The Book of Zechariah as a Resource for Baptists in a Pluralistic Age.”

The NABPR is a community of teaching scholars organized in 1981 to find ways to improve the teaching of religious studies and to encourage meaningful scholarship. It publishes the journal Perspectives in Religious Studies.

“The biblical prophet Zechariah helped the Jewish survivors of Israel’s fallen kingdom to renew their identity and mission in a context of great change and great challenges,” says Jones.  “His book offers valuable resources to Baptists and other Christians who are seeking to serve God faithfully in a rapidly changing world.”

Dr. Jones has taught in the Divinity School since 2000.  His most recent book is Gaining a Heart of Wisdom: A Model for Theological Interpretation of Scripture, published in 2019 by Smyth and Helwys Publishing.
