Campbell’s Office of Alumni Engagement, Volunteers Host First “Welcome to the City” Event Series

One of the goals within the Campbell University Office of Alumni Engagement is to connect with Campbell’s young alumni and recent graduates, helping them network with others in their field, form deeper relationships, and stay in touch with friendships formed while in school.

On August 2, the Office of Alumni Engagement and alumni volunteers had the opportunity to host young alumni in six metro areas around the southeast in a celebration of Campbell community at the inaugural “Welcome to the City” event series.  “Welcome to the City” allows both new graduates and young alumni to reconnect with classmates and expand their Campbell network within their local communities.

The event series, held in Raleigh, Richmond, Charlotte, Wilmington, Atlanta, and Winston-Salem, was well-received where almost 100 young alumni were in attendance between the six locations.

Katherine Fullwood (‘17) emphasized the benefits of her first Welcome to the City event, saying, “Welcome to the City was such a great event for me to be able to reconnect with other young alumni and meet those I didn’t realize were near me. Campbell was my home for four years and to be able to be with those who feel the same way was an amazing experience. I didn’t realize how many connections I had with alumni I hadn’t met before, whether it was working for the same company or sharing mutual friends. Welcome to the City allowed me to rekindle friendships, make new connections, and share stories of my time at Campbell with those who love Campbell just as much.”

The Office of Alumni Engagement wants to encourage young alumni to continue those relationships. All alumni are connected through their shared experiences at Campbell University, and it is important to continue to build those relationships and form new ones even after graduation.

Nikki Olive, ’18B, Director of Alumni Engagement, said, “Welcome to the City was part of a new initiative for us in the Office of Alumni Engagement to connect with the class of 2018 and other young alumni.  Our young alumni have a passion for Campbell that is overwhelming and contagious. We want this group to have the ability to connect with others in their area that share that same connection to Campbell. Our network is strong across North Carolina and in states like Virginia and Georgia. We want all alumni to know that the Campbell connection does not end after graduation.”

Welcome to the City will be back next year, Olive confirmed, saying, “After receiving an overwhelming amount of positive feedback towards this event series, we plan to continue this as an annual tradition.”

The office hosts events throughout the year to engage alumni. Homecoming is right around the corner on October 27, and the office will be hosting Alumni Village; a place where all Campbell graduates and their families are welcome to reconnect with fellow alumni, enjoy food trucks and live music, and then cheer on the Fighting Camels.
