Adult & Online graduate named a Teacher of the Year

The first graduate of Campbell University’s Adult & Online Education Teacher Education program was honored with the Teacher of the Year award at Coats Elementary School in Harnett County.

Summer Barefoot (’18) has taught first grade in Coats for five years. Prior to earning her degree, she was a teacher’s assistant and bus driver for the district for 14 years. In 2020, she was named her school’s Beginning Teacher of the Year.

Campbell Adult & Online Education has worked closely with the School of Education & Human Sciences over the years to offer the bachelor’s degree in teacher education and in special education.

“Campbell Online is proud of our partnership with the School of Education & Human Sciences to increase the number of licensed school teachers throughout North Carolina, especially rural communities,” Dean Beth Rubin said. “And we are especially proud of Summer Barefoot, the first Campbell student to enter and to complete the online program.”
