Campbell Law Innovation Institute to host launch event on Friday, Oct. 15
The Campbell Law Innovation Institute (CLII) will host a formal Launch Event on Legal Innovation and Legal Education from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at Campbell Law School. The event will be held in person but can also be accessed virtually. The Windar-style virtual conference is free and open to the public thanks to sponsor Lawyers Mutual Consulting & Services.
The mission of the Innovation Institute is to create educational experiences to serve the 21st-century legal services industry, and to research, teach, and promote ethical AI using data-driven, human-centered design with the ultimate goal of making a more just and virtuous society. The core value of the CLII is the belief that the ethics of artificial intelligence must be advanced through interdisciplinary study which must include philosophers, theologians, and other experts in the humanities who work collaboratively with technologists, lawyers, business leaders, and other experts.
The launch event for the Institute will feature a keynote presentation by Professor Daniel Rodriguez, director of the American Bar Association Center on Innovation, and former dean of Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law. The keynote will be followed by a presentation by Ed Walters, the CEO and founder of FastCase and a professor of law at Georgetown University Law School.
A presentation on Human-Centered Design by Tsai Lu Lui, who is a professor and department head at the North Carolina State University College of Design, will follow.
After Professor Liu’s presentation, a panel discussion will bring together the leaders of innovation initiatives at many leading law schools across the country: Daniel Linna (Northwestern), Nicole Morris (Emory), Amy Stein (University of Florida), David Colarusso (Suffolk University), and April Dawson (North Carolina Central University). The panel discussion will be led by Jeff Cox ’14 of UniCourt.
