Campbell welcomes North Brunswick students for holistic experience

Campbell University welcomed students and educators from North Brunswick High School on Saturday, October 17, 2026, for a special college exploration experience held in conjunction with the university’s Homecoming celebration.

The event provided students participating in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program with an opportunity to explore higher education, learn about academic programs, and gain valuable insight into preparing for college and future careers.

Organized through Campbell University’s School of Education and Human Sciences, the program introduced visiting students to the university’s academic offerings, admissions opportunities, scholarships, financial aid, and the importance of preparing for postsecondary success.

A highlight of the visit was an interactive panel discussion featuring Campbell University’s Teaching Scholars. The panelists shared their experiences as college students, discussed their academic journeys, and offered practical advice about navigating college life, developing leadership skills, and pursuing educational and career goals.

The Teaching Scholars also assisted with hosting the visiting students, helping create a welcoming environment and providing opportunities for meaningful conversations between current university students and prospective college students.

The event was further distinguished by the participation of Travis Beverly, North Carolina AVID Director, Charlotte, N.C., whose attendance reinforced the importance of partnerships between K–12 schools and institutions of higher education in preparing students for college readiness and success.

Dr. Terrie Hampton-Jones, Associate Professor of Education and Director of the Teaching Scholars Academy at Campbell University, coordinated the event.

“Providing high school students with opportunities to experience a university campus, interact with college students, and learn about the resources available to support their educational aspirations is an important part of preparing them for the future,” said Hampton-Jones. “Our goal is to help students recognize that college is attainable and that preparation, determination, and access to information can open doors to tremendous opportunities.”

The visit also demonstrated the leadership and service commitment of Campbell University’s Teaching Scholars, who participated in planning, hosting, and engaging with the AVID students throughout the program.

Hosting the students during Homecoming added a unique dimension to the experience, allowing participants to observe the university’s spirit, traditions, and sense of community.

The event reflects Campbell University’s continued commitment to educational outreach, college access, student leadership, and meaningful partnerships with North Carolina public schools.
