Graphic design professor’s poster selected for book

A poster created by Campbell University professor and Graphic Design Program Coordinator Dejan Mraovic was selected for the second edition of Mastering Type, published by Bloomsbury Publishing.
Mraovic’s pacifist poster, titled “In Case of Nuclear War, Lock the Door” was one of 272 designs (from more than 2,000 submissions) selected for the book, which represents artists and designers from 33 countries. Denise Bosler, author of Mastering Type, is an award-winning graphic designer and professor at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. In her design practice, she focuses on print collateral, packaging, logos and branding, with a particular emphasis on typography and hand-lettering.
Mraovic’s poster was printed at the Don E. Adleta TypeShop and Bindery during his artist residency at Ohio University.
“The red background was made using a small hand ink roller and represents my fear of atomic explosion,” he said. “In contrast to this loud background, the word ‘nuclear’ uses the 1960’s ‘hippie style’ of typography.”
His poster was previously selected for international exhibitions in Japan, Romania, Russia and the U.S. and was included in the collection of the Ogaki Poster Museum in Ogaki, Japan.
