Law student takes the time to say “thank you”

Thank a Giver Day (TAG Day) is an annual day of gratitude that gives students the opportunity to thank donors for their generosity and for helping make Campbell University what it is today.

Cheyenne McDonald, a second year Campbell Law student from Maypearl, Texas, jumped on the opportunity to thank Campbell donors in a video she posted on TAG Day 2018.

Watch Cheyenne’s reaction to receiving a full-tuition scholarship.

After a weekend in North Carolina where Cheyenne interviewed for scholarships, she received a call on her way home to Texas from former Law Dean Melissa Essary…it was the call. Cheyenne’s husband began recording on his phone with high hopes he would capture good news–a moment in time they would never forget.

He was right; Professor Essary offered Cheyenne the Leary and Joy Davis Leadership Scholarship, a full tuition scholarship awarded annually to one highly-qualified applicant with demonstrated leadership skills and the potential to become a leader in the law.

After the phone call, Cheyenne and her husband were so overwhelmed with joy, relief and tears, they had to pull over to collect themselves.

“I am an honored and humbled recipient of the Leary & Joy Davis Leadership Scholarship,” Cheyenne reflects. “A legal education is a distinct privilege and not having to pay for it is a blessing and one I know is only possible because of the kindness of others.”

Cheyenne plans to commission into the Army JAG Corps after graduating in May 2021.

“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the Davis family…and thank you to all other donors who help many of my peers reach their dreams as well. I pray one day I am able to be in [their] shoes to help pay the way for the next generation of world changers, too.”
