President Creed’s message to Campbell community: Finals
As finals approach, Campbell University President J. Bradley Creed delivers this week’s message of encouragement from the Wiggins Memorial Library — a place usually buzzing this time of year with students studying for those end-of-year exams.
TRANSCRIPT
Well, greetings Campbell Family.
I’m here in one of my favorite places on campus, the Wiggins Memorial Library. The library represents the heart and soul of the University because it’s about the accumulation of and dissemination of knowledge.
I love to come to the library. I wish that I could be here more often. To me it’s kind of like going to church so that’s why I dressed up for you today.
Anytime you come to the library or you study you should learn something, and already today I’ve learned some things I didn’t know about our library.
I’m in the periodical room. We take the Times Literary Supplement which is from London. It’s made it here during this time and I found this to be very interesting.
Did you know we have in our stacks the International Trombone Association Journal? That’s for all you low brass players.
Then this one caught my eye, the Journal of Immunology for a time such as this. When I finish this video I’m going to look through here and see if there’s something about a vaccine or a cure for COVID-19.
So it’s a great place. I’m here today and we actually have a few students who are still here. They are studying for final exams. Yes, I said it — final exams.
We’ve made it towards the end of the semester. You began very strong. I want you to finish strong.
This is the part of the semester where you are juggling studying for your final exams, your end of the semester projects, and your presentations.
Then we have all the celebrations at the end of the semester and the outdoor activities.
Well, it’s different this year.
Those final semester assignments are being done virtually and you’re having to stay connected to your friends through a phone or on a screen.
I want to take a few moments to encourage you to finish the race strong.
I know it’s been a really hard semester, but you’ve had a very unique opportunity over these last few weeks to focus on your studies and to complete one of the most challenging semesters in the history of Campbell University, and in fact the history of all American higher education.
I’m proud of the determination and the resolve that I’ve seen from you students and our faculty and our staff as we have pulled together during this time.
I trust that you’ll take the next few weeks to study hard, to look back on all that you’ve learned over the semester, and do your very best.
And for our seniors you’ll be a Campbell graduate before you know it so congratulations.
This time that we are in will not last forever, and we are confident that Campbell will be stronger as we emerge on the other side. I assure you that you will always have a place within the Campbell community.
I’m talking a little lower as you might can tell because I’m in the library.
Let me tell you — good luck, study hard for your finals, please be safe, wash your hands, and GO CAMELS!
