President Creed’s message to Campbell community: Holy Week

Campbell University President J. Bradley Creed talks of hope and shares a passage from Romans 5 — “We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings. Knowing that suffering brings perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.”

As we enter this Holy Season we are reminded of Christ’s death and resurrection.

We are now living in a time of great uncertainty, but this week is truly a week of hope and hope is something that we all can use right now.

I would like to read to you a passage from the book of Romans — the Apostle Paul in the first century writing to a group of Christians in that great city who were in need of a message of hope.

He says to them “We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings. Knowing that suffering brings perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who was given to us.”

This is a week of hope and a week to remember that the promises of God are unfailing.

Even in this age of social distancing you’re not alone because God is with us.

We know that while our world may be changing and our schedules are different we can hold fast to this hope that we have in Christ and knowing that we are all in this together.

Campbell University is not just a place. Campbell is a community even at a distance.

So during this Easter season, while you may be celebrating a bit differently and possibly separated from friends and family, I remind you of the hope that we have in God, Christ’s love for you and our love for you, the Campbell community.

Be safe and God bless you all.
