Ashley Campbell, the director of the Blanchard Community Law Clinic at Campbell Law School, appeared on “Podcast Raleigh,” to share her experience within the legal profession, and her passion for working with the clinic.

Campbell says she fell in love with the law while watching “Perry Mason,” and she initially attended law school to work in politics. After law school, she accepted a position with Legal Aid, where she discovered her passion for litigation, and went on to a decorated career in real estate law with Ragsdale Liggett. While handling domestic violence cases at Legal Aid, Campbell partnered with Campbell Law students to supervise their pro bono domestic violence efforts. This partnership eventually led Campbell to join the Campbell Law community as director of the Blanchard Community Law Clinic. The mission of the clinic is to “provide legal services to low-income people, which has really been my life’s passion,” Campbell explains on the podcast.

The Blanchard Community Law Clinic partners with non-profit agencies in the community to provide solutions to legal problems encountered by clients of those agencies. The clinic is where future attorneys help people in the community who may need help affording, accessing and understanding the justice system. Services include, but aren’t limited to, helping people expunge criminal records and restore suspended driver’s licenses.

The clinic, which was launched in September 2016, has made a tremendous impact in the Raleigh community within a short period, said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. Legal services are provided by Campbell Law students, under the supervision of Campbell and two other attorneys. Students handle cases with a high level of independence and conduct client interviews, prepare motions, oversee case management and make court appearances under the supervision of the clinic’s attorneys.

In the podcast, Campbell also talks about why being a member of the Wake County Bar is special and her quest to finish the Appalachian Trail.
