RALEIGH – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that Shipman & Wright, LLP have offered to financially sponsor two teams of Campbell Law student advocates at the sixth annual Professional Football Negotiation Competition scheduled for Jan. 23, 2020.

“Shipman & Wright have financially paved the way for our student advocates so many times in recent years, and we are blessed to enjoy our relationship with them,” Dean Leonard said. “Their gifts provide the opportunity for our students to learn, get competitive experience, and show the rest of the country how our first-class advocacy program is molding the future leading attorneys of tomorrow. We are in debt to them for their generosity.”

It is the third year in a row that Campbell Law advocates will make an appearance at the competition held at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans.

Third-year students Justin Hill and Kevin Littlejohn II and second-year students Carter Cole, Kevin Cline and Suzannah Davidson will form the teams. Andrew Shores ’13 will serve as their coach.

The Professional Football Negotiation Competition, run by the Tulane Sports Law Society, is a simulated contract negotiation using real life scenarios and actual upcoming NFL free agents. The competition provides participants with the opportunity to sharpen their negotiation skills as well as their knowledge of actual NFL contracts. In order to simulate an actual negotiation, the participants will receive a set of confidential objectives that serve as guidelines for the negotiation. Participants will either represent the football club or the free agent. Participants will also be provided with an Excel workbook that will allow them to quickly crunch the numbers and determine if contract proposals will meet their requirements.

Experts in the industry serve as judges for each negotiation and will conclude the competition with a discussion of relevant NFL topics.
