The COVID-19 Vaccine is Here: What You Need to Know

The pharmaceutical industry has worked diligently to develop the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccines are available to everyone 5 years of age and older. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require a two-shot series, and you must receive the same shot both times.

Find Your Spot for Your Shot

Vaccines will be available through local vaccine providers. Call for an appointment when it’s your turn. Find participating vaccine providers at YourSpotYourShot.nc.gov, or call the toll-free COVID-19 line 1-888-675-4567.

Take your shot at no cost

The COVID-19 vaccine will be available to everyone for free, whether or not you have health insurance.

Transportation assistance is available as well as resources to be vaccinated at home.

Booster shots are recommended to strengthen and extend protection against COVID-19

Boosters are now available to all North Carolinians 16 years and older. You should get a booster if you are 16 years of age and older AND:

  • You received your second/final dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines at least 6 months ago, or
  • You received your Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago.

Teens 16 and 17 can only receive the Pfizer booster, and adults 18 and older can get any brand.

Continue to practice the 3 Ws

Until most people are vaccinated, the 3 W’s are still essential to slow the spread: Wear a mask. Wait 6 feet apart. Wash your hands. That’s the best way to protect each other until most people have a chance to get vaccinated.
